Cadman for mayor?

I was forwarded this pretty sweet article by the Tyee saying that COPE David Cadman will run for Mayor. It is no secret I heart David Cadman. He’s smart and he looks like Santa Claus.

Article says that COPE was hoping they could join forces with Vision but Vision gave them the slap in the face and want to run their own candidate. If you didn’t read my thoughts on that issue you can read it here on “COPE and Vision duke it out”.

Political scientist Stewart said that the a split progressive left has no chance against the NPA whose support is solid through neighbourhoods in Kits and Shaughnessy (where TheVancouverManifesto lives).

I’m excited that Cadman is going to run, although I don’t think he has the classic mayoral qualities Ladner has. TheVancouverManifesto would be in quite the dilemma if both Ladner and Cadman were head to head. Cadman is fierce (in a Tyra Banks tone) but like I said in the EcoDensity postings, he says as many useless things as he does useful things. Cadman is defiant for the sake of being defiant and he doessn’t know (or doesn’t show) that he can contribute to a bad idea to turn it into a good one. I think Ladner has that kind of spice that I see Cadman lacking. A hint of that something that Cadman’s rambunctious personality still lacks. But apparently I might live in my own world as a progressive that still loves Ladner. A little cat fight has broken out over my posting about my Ladner-love. Unfortunately most of the posts are back and forth between a small handful of boys that I know and have to decided to duke it out electronically. Boys boys.. do I have to start moderating blog comments?

Cadman also states:
"We could wind up with Sam Sullivan representing the NPA and Al De Genova --- who elected Sam --- representing Vision. I think that would leave a broad swath of progressive voters who would be inclined to support me.
"If Al wins, Vision will no longer be a progressive organization. Al has very clearly said he wants to take the party to the right," Cadman said. "...a De Genova victory would be the end of Vision."
