But alas, Vision Vancouver failed to nominate David Eby.
Who woulda thunk it? I thought David Eby was a shoe in. Who can resist that freakishly tall man with a soft-spot for housing social justice?
I certainly can't, especially when he offers to come to my house to talk himself up. No, that was not meant to sound condescending at all. I really was pushing for David.
I don't get it. What happened? To my knowledge, the only thing that David Eby could have done wrong is run a strong slate for housing and homeless issues. *gasp* may I maybe infer that Vision Vancouver's membership is too moderate to push a candidate like Eby through?
Now dare I ask Mr. Eby to run with COPE?
No, Dave really does lose face if he attempts to put together his fallen [short lived] political career.
Go back to Pivot, Eby. If they will let you back in.
Now to everybody, why did he lose?
a) Moderate Vision Vancouver voters (Vision as a "progressive centre left" is a myth)
b) There were just too many other great candidates ahead of him (or ones more closely tied socially/politically/historically to the Vision campaign)
c) Distaste for the housing/homelessness slate
d) Inexperienced in politics
e) Freakishly tall
f) All of the above
g) Some of the above
h) Choose your own adventure.

What a disappointment. I will have a go at my own answer - could it be that the denizens of Vancouver in general do not give a flying f**k about anyone but themselves, much less the working poor, destitute, addicted, and/or homeless? As long as they don't have to trip over the bodies, I mean.
Yeah, this one pissed me off, too.
The Eby loss took a lot of the shine off the final results.
As a sidelight, AsperTV's Global newscast this morning is now over an hour into their newscast with absolutely no mention of the Vision vote results.
Quel surprise . . . .
My answer would be (h), for two reasons:
1) Slating....Mr. Eby steered clear and went it alone, which impressed me and, I think, a lot of people in the room Sat night under the Glitter Dome*.
2) Eby is currently trailing Dhaliwal by 17 votes (they're recounting because it's less than 1% of the vote and, according to FABula, there are about 20 provisional votes being scrutinized) and from what I saw at the polling station late in the voting process** Mr. Dhaliwal did a heckfire job of getting his vote out.
How's that sound?

Hmmmm... How about a few questions about your commitment to your infatuent, I mean, David Eby?
1) Did you, yourself, host an evening with David Eby in your home and have him speak to your invited friends and acquaintances?
2) Did you ask five friends to join Vision Vancouver and vote for David Eby? And ask those five friends to ask five friends?
3) Did you, yourself, join Vision and vote for David Eby?
Because David Eby (at this point, recount pending) missed nomination by 17 votes! SEVENTEEN VOTES! And he missed being nominated -- he did not lose, nor is he a "loser." Remember - democracy belongs to those who show up.
Anonymous:
1) No, as my home is an extremely small strata which is not conducive to large gatherings;
2) Yes;
3) Yes.
And you ? ? ? ?
My questions were addressed to the author of this weblog, Ms. V. Manifesto.
And myself? I was standing in the rain at Tupper Secondary School on Saturday. All day. In the rain. Soggy pieces of paper in my hand. A smile on my face. Democracy rocks.
tis true,
I was not in in that line, standing in the rain.
I was not even in Vancouver for that line, so I could stand in the rain.
But had I been, it would not matter because I am not a Vision Vancouver member and respectfully declined adding myself to the membership list.
I heart david Eby, I just don't heart Vision Vancouver.
